This is a recent commission, I have never made a ” Lantern ” before but I always try to tackle anything that comes along. I used Spectrum glass for this piece, the red and amber are waterglass and the blue top is rough rolled. The dark green oak leaf is a piece of Kokomo. I used lead came to construct the four panels and then soldered them together before finally adding the finial. © David Kennedy 2015

Moody Irises

Moody Irises

Irises must have been created for stained glass they just work so well, the shape and the colours lend themselves to almost any design. This panel was designed and constructed in about 40 hours, the glass is Youghiogheny stipple.

Blue Hydrangea

Hydrangea's
Blue Hydrangea

This panel started as a thumbnail sketch which I did whilst my son was having a half – hour piano lesson. The full size pattern however took about four days to get right. Hydrangea’s grow in abundance in Ireland and in a multitude of colours making them a perfect subject to produce in art glass. The mop heads here are made with a Uroboros ring mottle, leaves and background are Youghiogheny stipple.

Two Daffodils
Two Daffodils

This site is about stained glass in general, but in particular about American art glass and the pieces I create with this medium. Comments are invited that are relevant to the work. I have had quite a few comments so far ( mostly spam ) which I have to delete, during this process I have inadvertently deleted some comments which I had allowed and I would like to send my sincerest apologies to those who contributed these,

The Shamrocker

St. Patricks Day today so this piece seems quite apt. It is made as a pendant, the background glass is a Youghiogheny Stipple, the shamrock leaves and the black pieces are Bullseye Glass and the skull is made with a Uroboros Granite backed and cut using a bandsaw.

Japanese Maple at Holles Street

HS maple cropped This panel is an adaption of the ” Japanese Maple ” pattern. It was installed in the National Maternity Hospital at Holles Street in Dublin in June of 2014. The background glass is a Youghiogheny Stipple and the maple leaves are made using a Uroboros Granite backed glass. The finished panel was then encased in a sealed double – glazed unit, finished size 1320mm x 470mm.

This is the full size panel ” Irises at Slade ” made with Uroboros Art Glass codes : 60 – 70, 60 – 543, 65 – 17, 65 – 145 . I took my inspiration for this panel from ” Van Gogh’s ” famous painting, trying to capture the colour and energy in my design.
