On a sadder note this is only the second post on here this year, due mainly to a number of deaths in my family.Whilst this has been a very sad and difficult time at some point I feel you have to try and move on. Which brings us to this design, in Japanese culture the Koi Fish represents good fortune, luck and abundance and we all could do with some of that.

This panel is inspired by the story of the koi swimming upstream in the fall, hence the maple leaves. Legend has it that if it succeeded in climbing the falls at a point called rainbow gate on the yellow river, it would be transformed into a dragon. Based on that legend , the koi has become a symbol of worldly aspiration and advancement.

This is a recent commission, I have never made a ” Lantern ” before but I always try to tackle anything that comes along. Spectrum glass was used for this piece, the red and amber are water glass and the blue top is rough rolled. The dark green oak leaf is a piece of Kokomo. Lead came was used to construct the four panels which were then soldered together, finally the finial was added to complete the project. © David Kennedy 2015

Quite a bit of work arranging this panel but David eventually settled on him swimming downstream.
